Professional bodies
I am a registered CAT psychotherapist. This is Cognitive Analytic Therapy www.acat.me.uk and I am registered with UKCP as a psychotherapist. www.ukcp.org This involved five years of part time study, as well as having my own therapy. I have been a CAT therapist for 13 years now.
Prior to that I worked with Relate for 14 years and have their certificate - Relate CCC (certificate in couples therapy).
I am also a senior accredited therapist for BACP - the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. This is the standard association for all counsellors. I gained my accreditation with them 12 years ago. www.bacp.co.uk
I am also an NLP practitioner and have an interest in energy therapies such as EFT and am currently learning EMDR.
I have done numerous short courses over the 25 years that I have been in practice.
About my experience
I have worked in the NHS for 16 years - 14 as a practice counsellor in a local GP practice and 2 as a supervisor of other therapists in a Community Mental Health team. I also worked in Relate for 14 years. Prior to all that I trained as a Mental health social worker, and taught in Wormwood Scrubs prison.
In 1998, I set up in a private practice in a small way in Trowbridge, and now this has expanded into seeing most of my clients there. I also offer supervision to practicing counsellors and work as a supervisor in two addiction agencies.
My Relate background was both in short term therapy and also systemic therapy, looking at the whole person in their environment.
